The PlanktonID team

The PlanktonID team is composed of scientists from the GEOMAR Helmholtz-Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, Kiel University and the Observatoire Océanologique de Villefranche sur Mer (France). We explore biogeochemical processes in the ocean and deploy different nets and cameras to study phyto- and zooplankton. During our cruises we collect large amounts of data, which we analyse and publish when we are back at the office.

Dr. Rainer Kiko: Initiator and principal investigator of PlanktonID. Rainer's homepage Rainer studied biology and chemistry at Kiel University and received his PhD from the Institute for Polar Ecology, Kiel. He is a scientist with GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel and currently works within the Subproject B8 of the collaborative research centre "Climate-biogeochemical interactions in the tropical oceans".

We gratefully acknowledge Hydroptic's and Marc Picheral's technical support with the UVP and would also like to thank the GEOMAR school program for valuable ideas and tips. Furthermore, we would like to thank the GEOMAR data management team and all our colleagues that made the UVP deployments possible or handled the UVP while on board.
